Mrs. Wheat's Creole Crawfish Pie

Whole crawfish tails simmered with The Trinity, then blended with rice and special seasonings generously stuffed in a light fluffy crust.

New Orleans delicacy that’ll make your mouth do a Cajun two-step.


Ingredients

Filling: Crawfish, rice, onions, celery, green bell peppers, margarine (Soybean oil, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, water, salt, vegetable mono and di-glycerides, vegetable lecithin, sodium benzoate added as a preservative, artificially flavored, colored with a beta-carotene, vitamin A palmitate added), Corn Starch, water, spices, salt, dehydrated parsley.

Dough: Bleached wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, iron (reduced), thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin and folic acid, water, shortening (soybean, oil hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oils), dough conditioner (enriched wheat flour (wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), salt, soybean oil and 2% or less of each of the following: L-Cysteine, hydrochloride, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), enzymes), salt


Unit Size: 12 (3.5 oz.) Pies

Cooking Instructions:

Deep Fry - at 350° F for 5 to 7 minutes or until golden brown.

Baking – Brush partially thawed pie with egg wash and bake at 400 degrees F until center reaches 160 degrees F.

The ingredients in these pies don't have too much unnecessary additives. I think the simplicity of the ingredients is what makes it taste so good. For the most part its crawfish sauteed in the holy trinity of Cajun food: peppers, onions and celery, with a thick brown sauce. It's essentially thick etouffee in a nice pie shell.
